Teletext on my desk top.

Full size picture (26k) I always have my favorite Teletext pages available from my desktop. Clicking links on my active desktop, opens previously saved teletext pages, because these are on my desktop they are always available, so I don't have to run VTPlus and type in the relevant page numbers first!

How is it done?

Hardware

Hauppauge WinTV pci card - See my Webcam page for details of how I capture movement close to my house when I am out.

Software

If you use Win 9x no additional software is required!

VT Plus 32 - the teletext software that comes with the TV card - download here

VT Plus 32 Batch file for automating and saving teletext pages at boot up.

Implementation

  1. A link to a VT Plus script file is placed in the Programs/Startup folder on my PC's start menu
  2. At boot-up the VT Plus scripts runs gets my favorite pages and saves them as pictures to my hard disk (the script closes VT Plus 32 as well)
    Tip
in program options set the maximum page age to 600 minutes this will allow the script to execute much quicker if, like me, your PC is a little ropy, and you reboot more than once a day, since it will use the pages in it's internal cache.
Tip close VT plus when it is minimise, it will then start in the minimised state when the script runs and not clutter your desktop.
  3. My desktop wall paper is set to a simple HTML file, using active desktop. The HTML file uses javascript to pop up other HTML files the same size as the teletext pages, but without any of the menu buttons, scroll bars etc.
  4. These "windows" simply display the teletext picture (saved by the VT Plus script), clicking the picture links to the next subpage etc.
  5. That's it! You can download all the files you need to get you up and running quickly, but you will need to change the file locations in webwallpaper.htm and htmlscript.vts to the directory you save the rest of the files to, since these two files do not use relative paths.
